TREMESTIERI
ETNEO
Tremestieri
Etneo is a city of about 19,000 inhabitants in the Etna area, at
400 m a.s.l. The heart of the town is crossed by the Via Etnea that,
starting in Catania, climbs up the Etna. The town planning is of
late 1800’s-early 1900’s origin.
Tremestieri
Etneo has some interesting religious buildings,
The
Mother Church is dedicated to the Madonna della Pace; it has a fine
façade framed by pilaster strips and flanked by a bell-tower
and a parish hall. Inside, it has three naves and beautiful 1600’s
wooden statues of the Madonna della Pace and St. Barbara.
The
church of Santa Maria delle Grazie features a striking color contrast
between its blue bell-tower and the pink walls. It houses a fine
baptismal font.
The
minor Madonna dell’Idria’s, Sant’Antonio da Padova’s
(1600’s), the Maria Santissima Immacolata’s and San
Vito’s (1600’s) churches are also interesting.
